Thinking and feeling

Too much thinking can be very unproductive and at times even destructive. It leads to rigidity of your body and mind. That is why, the intellect has to be balanced out by the limbic brain, where your emotions are. Without the limbic brain, the intellect will categorize you to death.

The emotional states that the limbic brain gives rise to can be life-saving, as long as your intellect does not interfere. When the intellect labels the emotion and starts analyzing it, the emotion becomes pathological and disruptive.

Grief for instance is a vital part of a healthy individual. Grief helps dissolve the habits that are no longer necessary. When the grieving is done properly, it neutralizes the charge around the memory of the traumatic event. If however grief is intellectualized, the charge of the trauma will remain stored in the body. The more intellectual you are, the more you stop the emotion from doing its job. As a result, you will likely become prone particularly to lung and bowel conditions.

Anger is another crucial emotion. It motivates you and it helps move things. When there are blockages in your system, the body will generate anger to move them. For instance, if you are constipated, very often you feel grumpy and angry. This is your body trying to create movement in the bowel. The same process is natural when the body tries to move clots from your blood vessels or stones from your kidneys and gall bladder. Thus, anger can be your body trying to keep you alive. However, if you involve your intellect and start analyzing anger, it will become disruptive and pathological. Then, instead of movement it will create explosion and rupture. As a result, you may suffer haemorrhoids, ruptured appendix, or even a brain stroke.

So, next time you feel emotional, don’t try and explain why. Tap out your cortices instead, and observe the emotion neutrally. It will dissipate for sure. If you don’t know how to tap out your cortices, please ask for assistance at your next BodyTalk session – we will be happy to show you the technique.

Intellect and intelligence

Intellect and intelligence are the yang (the masculine) and the yin (the feminine) of the fire element. In the body, intellect is represented by the brain (especially the left brain) as well as the small intestine. In fact, the small intestine has 10 times more neuro-peptides than the brain does. So you process a lot of your experiences in your gut! Intelligence, on the other hand, is represented by the heart where the deep knowing resides.

The small intestine gives you understanding and intellectual discernment. But it is the heart that turns the understanding into deep knowing (i.e. intelligence and wisdom). An imbalance between the yin and the yang within the fire element can show up as someone who has accumulated a lot of intellectual understanding but it hasn’t sunk in, it hasn’t become a deeper knowing.

People who have too much intellect and not enough intelligence are commonly called «seminar junkies». They keep going to personal development seminars and are full of insights. But at the end of the day, because the understanding hasn’t sunk in on a heart level, their actions never change, and their life remains the same as a result.

When you have too much intellect but no intelligence, you can become depressed and sick-worried, you can lose sleep, and you won’t be able to experience harmony, joy and peace.

By balancing the yin and the yang of the fire element, BodyTalk can easily help your intellectual realizations sink in and become heart knowing. As a result, you will do the right thing without thinking, instead of thinking about the right thing without doing it.
